NextHunt Review – Wetlands Game Lodge
The NextHunt team visited Wetlands Game Lodge and Donkerhoek Mountain Lodge in March 2022. We stayed in the Manor and was impressed with the luxury and the attention to detail. The restaurant and bar with its beautiful view of the hills is a nice rendevouz for everyone on the premises. There is always a nice fire going, which is important as it get very cold in Wakkerstroom, even in summer. The food was exceptional and reasonably priced.
One of the highlights of our trip was a visit inside The Silo. Two old silos that have been transformed into 3-storey suite with an elevator. On a tour of the hunting area, we were astounded with the abundance of game on the farm. Herd upon herd of eland, springbok, buffalo, blesbok greeted us. One would surely get your hunting quota here in no time to allow you to enjoy the magnificent surroundings. There are hundreds of streams all over the farm – the Pongola river even originates on the farm, and due to the climate, drought isn’t something familiar. The animals are therefore in great shape year round.
We also visited the Donkerhoek Mountain Lodge, which although it’s on the same property, is about an hour’s drive from the main camp. Differential lock will get you 90% of the way, but 4×4 will get you to camp. This beautiful, isolated lodge provides a tranquility which is hard to find nowadays. All photos we’ve seen before and since cannot adequately describe the beauty of the place. This is really one to experience for yourself and one of our personal favourites.
