FARM REVIEW: Berendina Game Farm

The NextHunt team recently visited Berendina Game Farm near Christiana in North West.

Since changing ownership 3 years ago, Berendina has been transformed into something really special.

The newly built lodge provides all the required amenities with luxurious finishes and a nice boma to boot. The entire farm is powered by an enormous array of solar panels.

Looking out over the porch is the “front lawn” of about 3 hectares, comprising a water hole, where the game graze and play. Even at night, there are hundreds of animals walking around only a few meters from you. A few curious fallow deer might even come to investigate what you’re braaing.

The lodge and lawn is very well lit by powerful spotlights, adding to the experience.

Camping stands are also available if needed, with its own ablution facilities.

A hundred meters or so from the lodge, is a newly built deck from where you can watch the animals, have a braai or relax in the swimming pool. This is an ideal place for a sundowner or three.

A few minutes’ drive into the bush is a marvelous new viewing deck where one can have a braai or enjoy a 360 degree view of the farm.

The farm is stocked to the brim with game and one does not need to look far to find any. Huge herds of impala, lechwe, springbok, blesbok and eland run around while the sables and kudus also casually walk about.

The terrain is flat, with lots of grass and trees. The shrubs one finds in the Limpopo bushveld is mostly absent, which increases line of sight, but which also increases shooting distances to about 150-300m in some areas, providing a nice mixture of bushveld-plains hunting.

The farm is beautiful and well maintained, offering a lot to hunters and non-hunters alike. This probably explains why Berendina is almost booked-out for the 2024 season in the first month of the year.

Fortunately for us, we have already secured our dates to hunt at Berendina in 2024 and we recommend you do the same.

The lodge sleeps 12, but can accommodate up to 20 people.

Minimum booking of 6 hunters and 3 nights.

Rifles with silencers are preferred.
